Entropic Multi-Relaxation-Time Lattice Boltzmann Model for Large Density Ratio Two-Phase Flows

We propose a multiple relaxation time entropic realization of two-phase flow lattice Boltzmann model we introduced in earlier works arXiv:2112.01975 S.A. Hosseini, B. Dorschner, and I. V. Karlin, arXiv preprint, (2021). While the original with single allows us to reach large density ratios, it is limited terms stability respect non-dimensional viscosity Courant--Friedrichs--Lewy number. Here show that extends limits significantly, which larger Reynolds numbers for given grid resolution. The thermodynamic properties solver, using Peng--Robinson equation state, are studied first simple configurations. Co-existence densities temperature scaling both interface thickness surface tension shown agree well theory. then used simulate impact drop onto thin liquid film ratios matching those water air 2-D 3-D. results very good agreement theoretically predicted laws experimental data.

For lattice Boltzmann methods based on entropy functions, we derive a collision integral which enables simple identification of transport coefficients, and which circumvents construction of the equilibrium.
